🎵 “Message in a Bottle” · The Police

Background: This song was released in 1979 as part of the album Reggatta de Blanc and was written by Sting, the lead singer of The Police. It became the band’s first number one hit in the UK, marking an important moment in their career. The song uses the image of a person alone on an island, sending a message in a bottle and hoping someone will receive it. It speaks about loneliness, hope and the human need to connect with others, and it ends with a twist: the man discovers that he is not the only one who feels alone.

Why we study it: it is useful for practising vocabulary about isolation and rescue, as well as structures such as I’ll send…, I hope…, I’m not alone and repeated expressions that help listening comprehension.
